The purpose of a thermal deaerator is to physically remove dissolved gases, such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, which cause corrosion in boiler systems.
This equipment consists of a feedwater tank with a deaerating dome on top, in which are placed several plates in a cascade type of configuration. These plates are removable for inspection and maintenance.
A temperature of at least 103 ºC is maintained by introducing steam and keeping the pressure at 0,2 bar. Water will enter the top of the dome and fall through the cascade. The feedwater level is maintained by a modulated feeding system. To avoid heat loss, the feedwater tank and dome must be properly insulated with mineral wool and coated with aluminium sheet.
